Lentil Soup / Moong Dal Soup

This soup is basically simple dal made into a soup. This is influenced by Western way of enjoying our dal. Though we make dal often we rarely enjoy it as a soup. You can add less water and enjoy the same as a dal with roti as well. I like this dal better as a soup...

When I saw the theme for Magic Mingle - Moong Dal and Pepper, I knew I have to post this.

Yellow Split Moong Dal 1/2 cup
Onions 2
Tomatoes 2
Curry Leaves Few
Cumin 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Green Chilli 2
Pepper 1 tsp (coarsely ground)
Coriander Leaves to garnish

Oil and Salt to taste

Method of Preparation

1. Cook moong dal with 4 cups of water in a pressure cooker till it is all mushed up.

2. Heat oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds. When it sizzles, add the onions sliced, green chilli and curry leaves. Saute till it starts to brown.

3. Add tomatoes cut into big chunks. Saute till it is cooked well.

4. Add the cooked dal, turmeric, pepper and salt. Mix well. Add more water if need be. You can use vegetable broth as well if you choose. Simmer for a little while and switch off.

5. You can add a spoon of yogurt as well while serving.

Garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy.  Or play with dal like my little one and I did :-) I was trying to click a photo for the recipe and my son started playing (read posing) for photos :-)
