Thattai - Thattai recipe - Easy snack - Flat Deep fried Crisps - Gluten Free

Tattai is a personal favourite of mine. Though I have eaten it umpteen times, I have never made them before. As I was making things that each person likes, I thought I owe this to me! And big surprise, turns out everyone else loves it as much.

The good thing about this snack is that it does not need any gadgets to make. Most South Indian Snacks need the murukku press. This one is just your hands. So anyone can easily whip up a batch. Why not give it a go this Diwali?

Ingredients (Makes about 15)

Rice Flour 1 cup
Urad Dal 1 tsp powdered
Channa Dal 2 tsp soaked in water for 10 min. I added only 1 tsp and felt it was too less.
Butter 2 tsp
Chilli Powder 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Hing a little
Chopped curry leaves (i forgot to add it. but it gives an awesome taste)

Oil for deep frying

Method of Preparation

1. Add all the ingredients into a bowl. Give it a mix with your fingers.

2. Add little water at a time and to make a stiff dough.

3. Separate into 15 small balls. Keep it covered. They dry out very fast.

4. In a plate or plastic bag (like ziploc) pat down one ball with your fingers to the shape of tattai.

5. Heat oil in a pan. Keep in medium heat.

6. Add the tattai to the oil. Repeat for 2 or 3 more balls. Fry till light brown in colour and flip and cook the other side as well.

7. Repeat for the rest of the batch.
